SODIUM Gravity Book 4 eBook Stephen Arseneault
I've just finished Book four (Gravity) of the SODIUM Series. I have to say this is the fastest I've ever read four books in any series...and it's not like I've a lot of spare time...(all sixteen of my children and Grandchildren will be visiting over the Christmas Holidays). These books are fast-paced, exciting and full of both surprises and disappointments...for the Characters. The Science is interesting and what I especially like is that you can see it develop at a pace driven by up-coming and on-going War with an Alien Species. This Species, actually a number of Species ruling over other species and Robotic Warriors, is desperate for one of our more common elements (e.g. Sodium). Their survival depends on them harvesting ALL of our Sodium.
While much of our old and new technologies have evolved at a fantastic pace the Allen's have developed the ability to Weaponize Gravity. We haven't yet fully developed countermeasures to this and they have slowly begun to shift our Moon and as it's gravitational forces increase floods and earthquakes begin to add to the devastation inflicted on us by the Aliens. Over a Billion Souls have already been lost all around the world.
One of our highly skilled and knowledgeable Space Pilots has been captured and through the use of advanced interrogation methods has revealed a dangerous amount of our Technological and Intellectual (Military, Farming, Social, etc.) knowledge. She is being taken to the Aliens home planet some twelve light-years away. While we have succeeded in developing FTL Technology,it's not sure we can, or will, invest the resources to attempt a rescue of one person; especially when there is no need to protect Classified information any longer.
As soon as I submit this review, I'm getting Book Five.

SODIUM Gravity Book 4 eBook Stephen Arseneault Reviews
I initially began reading the Sodium series while I waited for the next AMP series book to be published. I am not sorry I did as the lead up to the AMP series was excellent and the continuity maintained. I did not even know WHY the series was named Sodium until I read the books. . . NOR did I know why the next series was named AMP. Because I read the Sodium series, I now know why the next series was named AMP. I am NOT going to tell you. .. and spoil the surprise. . . you will have to read it for yourself! Enjoy the read. . .
For the first time in the series, the protagonist is the same as the previous to continue the story in SODIUM. I don't agree with all of the science and engineering, but since I'm a EE P.E. in Power, I can be kinda picky. As a story, I enjoyed reading it. It's Stephen Arseneault's first series so a little rough, yet it's still unique and exciting.
The aliens are on the move again and they are heading for earth. The Ghost Attack Fighter (GAF) is having some modern improvements completed which will improve their overall mission accomplishment and readiness.
The stellar winds are observed more closely as well as the alien community. There are squids as well as humanoids in their hierarchy. A spacewalk through the plasma has an incredible effect on the DNA of the astronauts.
The ending is a cliff hangar which involves a POW taken by one of the warring factions...
Most highly recommended. So, Sodium 5 is now on the agenda...
It has been a while since I read the first three Sodium books but so far as I can recall this is the first to end in a cliff-hanger. I believe it is also the first to carry the main character over to the next volume. The threat to the survival of humanity continues and intensifies. The only reason I suspected that Earth and humanity would survive is that I knew there was another volume. The reader actually meets the aliens in this volume and learns what had long been implied. The aliens have exhausted the sodium on the planet from which the attacks are coming. The series continues to be well written, exciting and interesting.
Again, the technical aspects of the book was excellent. The writing was very good. Although after reading the first books, this one expected the reader to know a lot of backstory. And there was not an ending to this book, just an idea of a continuation in the next book. Which of course I will read.
I am starting to feel fully involved now I have a growing and burning hate for the antagonists. This can only means the book was well written. The plot's scope broadens by a couple order of magnitude with the mysterious veil behind the identity of the enemy raised. They are truly despicable, but just as truly dangerous. An interesting protagonist from the beginning this time, and the book ends on a very dark note, which almost felt like a cliffhanger - Hope this does not begin a trend, as I am of the firm opinion that cliffhangers are never needed, and books should be self-contained even within series - Humanity achieves a temporary and Pyrrhic victory, and as much as the technology available to man has grown exponentially, the precious human capital is being decimated just as quickly. This sets the tone for the next book.
Four books in and I'm enjoying ever page. Still haven't heard about the fate of previous characters. Kinda bummed on that. But the new characters are just as great. Beware though this book will leave a cliffhanger going right into book 5. Still no dialogue but it doesn't matter. This book is well written. Good adventure about facing aliens and revealing who/what they are. Action for more than half the book. I couldn't put it down.
No swearing or sex. Glad to see a series staying somewhat PG. I say somewhat because of the mass destruction and death. Good for young adults 13 and up.
